An original verse fable involving animals

A greyhound and a hedgehog met

High on a hill near Hurst,

And there it was they had a bet

On who could race down first.

‘You’ll never cope with such a slope,’

The greyhound quipped with glee,

‘Oh don’t be daft!’ the hedgehog laughed,

‘I’ll win this race, you’ll see.’

The hedgehog had the wherewithal

To take an early lead:

He rolled himself into a ball

And quickly gathered speed.

The moral here is plain to see

As I shall now convey:

However long one’s legs might be

It’s balls that win the day.
