A poem, addressed to a saint, asking for help over an unusual problem that comes within his or her sphere of influence

Saint Antony of Padua,

Retrieve my loss I pray!

I was sitting at the organ

When the damn thing went astray.

I know I’ve lost my glasses

And my slippers and my shoes,

But this time it was something

That I can’t afford to lose.

Saint Antony of Padua

I beg you on my knees,

As one who’s helped me in the past

To find my wretched keys,

Help me find this item

And I’ll praise you come what may!

‘The Lost Chord’ isn’t something

That one loses every day.
